ME&A Trainer Profiles
The ME&A training team has exceptional in-depth experience
in a wide variety of training topics and methodologies, as
well as experience with public and private sector clients in
the U. S. and overseas. Since 1998, ME&A has trained almost
2,700 USPS supervisors and managers in a variety of
management training programs throughout the country. Below
is a short profile for each trainer:
Susan Levin--Chevy Chase, MD
Susan has more than twenty years of international and
domestic experience in communications and conflict
resolution, both as a trainer and as a mediator, as well as
six years of experience offering communications and
negotiation skills training for the U.S Postal Service (USPS).
She has also conducted workshops on mediation strategies,
team building, and diversity She has served as a
mediator for the Supreme Court of Virginia and the D.C.
Office of Human Rights. Susan designed a two day
communication lab for USPS which has been offered to over 52
groups of USPS staff in 2002-2003. Recently, she also
designed a three day course in conflict management for USPS
in cooperation with several other members of the ME&A
training team. The course is now offered each year at the
USPS Bolger Center in Potomac, Maryland.
Ruth Perlstein--Annandale, VA
Ruth is a Licensed Professional Counselor with more than
twenty years of experience organizing and facilitating
leadership and mediation conferences. Her book on conflict
resolution (Prentice Hall, 1996) is widely used in mediation
training and another book on mediation will be released
shortly. She has six years of experience training USPS staff
in communications and negotiation skills, and has
participated extensively in the design of several courses
for USPS.
David Weinman--Alexandria, VA
Dave is the founding partner of Conflict Resolutions, a
mediation service located in Alexandria, Virginia, and has
advanced degrees in Organizational Behavior and Development.
He serves as a leader of men's groups dealing with domestic
violence, and offers communications training for married
couples. He has also served as a trainer for more than
six years in communications and negotiation skills for USPS
staff.
Rose Marie (Jerri) Shevlin--Houston, TX
Jerri has designed peer mediation programs and trained
mediators at the elementary, secondary and college levels.
She developed one of the first training courses for
mediators dealing with domestic violence and trained more
than 300 mediators in the mid Atlantic region. She
holds a Master's degree from George Mason University in
Conflict Analysis and Resolution, and has served as a
trainer for USPS staff in communications and negotiation
skills for more than six years.
Denise Woods--Washington, DC
Denise has a broad background in conflict resolution, team
building, crisis intervention and reconciliation. She
has done extensive work designing and offering workshops on
valuing diversity and conducting cultural audits. She
received a Master's degree from Syracuse University in
Political Science with an emphasis on conflict resolution.
She joined the ME&A training team in 2003.
Paul Slattery--McLean, VA
Paul has over 27 years of U.S. and international experience
in consulting, training, training of trainers, and team
building. He is particularly adept at engaging people
from diverse backgrounds and guiding them through
difficulties in communicating, defining goals, measuring
progress, and engendering cooperation during times of
adversity and change. He has served as a
trainer/consultant with the U.S. Office of Personnel
Management, the Federal Executive Institute, the U.S.
Department of Energy as well as completing overseas training
assignments in Egypt, Uganda, Sierra Leone and Zimbabwe.
Roselyn Kay--Washington, D.C.
Roselyn has more than 24 years of experience leading teams,
creating corporate strategy, and facilitating training on
communications, group dynamics and action learning.
Her special area of expertise is the "Appreciative Inquiry"
methodology. She has a Master’s degree in
Organizational Development/Change Leadership from American
University and the National Training Labs, and is a
principal in the New Heights Group in Washington, D.C.
Recent clients include a NASA Senior Executive Service
group, HUD Senior Executives, and the Funds for Learning
organization.
Robert W. Taylor--Oakdale, CA
Robert has over thirty years experience designing,
implementing, and evaluating training and development
services that have an impact on human and organizational
performance. His major contributions to organizational
success are in the areas of management training and
leadership development; formal human performance measurement
and management; and Total Quality Management and continuous
improvement efforts. Bob was the Director of the Total
Quality Management Institute at the U.S. General Services
Administration from 1989-1994. He is currently located
in California and is President of Robert Taylor Associates.
He has been a member of the ME&A training team for two years
and recently served as lead trainer/consultant for a multi
session organizational development and training program for
the USPS Albuquerque District.
Donald E. Smith--Ontario, Canada
Don, ME&A's Vice President for Learning and Performance
Technologies, has more than forty years experience as an
Instructional Systems Design (ISD) expert, designer, and
facilitator. Dr. Smith has developed scores of
learning curricula using ISD methodology. He has
facilitated/instructed nearly 300 Train-the-Trainers
courses, many of them in developing countries, and has
facilitated management, leadership, team building, coaching
and management of change learning programs. Dr. Smith
played a central role starting in 1998 in designing learning
interventions for the USPS in the areas of Interpersonal
Communicating Skills and Organizational Negotiating Skills.
Francis N. Vita--Chevy Chase, MD
Frank specializes in the use of interpersonal communication
skills and uses his knowledge of group dynamics and ability
to quickly develop rapport in order to deliver and
facilitate effective seminars and presentations. Frank
is an adjunct professor at both National-Louis University
and Montgomery College in Maryland. A former Special
Agent with the Federal Bureau of Investigation, Frank worked
one-on-one with individuals, facilitated meetings with
agency directors, and resolved interagency conflicts and
problems through consensus building. He has six years
of experience training USPS supervisors in communication and
negotiation skills.
James F. Fields--Central Point, OR
In his twenty year career with the United States Postal
Service, Jim served as Master Instructor, Senior Instructor
at the Management Academy in Potomac, MD, and Management
Education Specialist. His responsibilities included
classroom instruction, general management courses, as well
as conducting training needs analysis for postal facilities
nationwide. Jim is now the founder and owner of Leadership
Development Services, a firm specializing in custom designed
leadership training for managers. Clients have
included the U.S. Postal Service, Los Angeles County Food
and Beverage Safety Council, Southern Oregon University, and
National Academy of Postal Supervisors. Jim has been a
member of the ME&A training team for six years.
Rene Fenton--Washington, DC
Rene is a highly experienced trainer in the human resource
development field, concentrating in the areas of management
development, and supervisory training. She has conducted
training assessments, developed training curricula, and
taught management programs in both the private and public
sector. At National-Louis University, Dr. Fenton has managed
the development and implementation of a Bachelor of Science
in Management Information Systems (BSMIS) degree program;
the development of the Outcomes Assessment Plan for the
College of Management and Business; and co-coordinated the
college's self-study for IACBE Accreditation.
Joseph Chamberlin--Baltimore, MD
Joe has expertise as an organizational development
strategist in many areas including organizational
structuring, management development, performance management
systems, leadership training, team building, and mediation.
As Training Specialist with the Johns Hopkins University,
Joe was directly responsible for the planning and
implementation of organizational development strategies and
hospital-wide training programs. Earlier in his
career, he served as lead trainer for Catholic Relief
Services and designed and conducted numerous training
programs throughout the world for local and international
staff. Joe's visionary leadership qualities are
complemented by a strong record of achievement in the
creation of appropriate programs which have resulted in
significant improvements in management performance and
organizational success. He has been a member of the
ME&A training team for two years.
Joyce Macias--Oxnard, CA
Joyce is a training consultant with experience in the
design, development and delivery of various workshops and
training programs for government, private sector and
non-profit organizations. Topics she has covered
include Problem Solving, Customer Service, Leadership, and
Interpersonal Communication. Joyce is a skilled,
enthusiastic presenter who targets client's specific
objectives. Most recently, Joyce played a key role in
a multi session organizational development and training
program for the USPS Albuquerque District.
